Why DCHS Sixth Form

Why Choose our Sixth Form

At the heart of our school community is the central belief that to be successful you have to have strong relationships. The 6th form team, tutors and subject staff are committed to this belief. We want to help you become informed young people, engaged with their local communities and the wider global issues that exist today. ‘Informed’ is the key word here: you have chosen to stay on in education in order to improve your qualifications and widen your range of opportunities and our job now is to continue that work and ensure you continue to be as informed as you can be about the opportunities that lie ahead of you.

We are committed to giving you guidance, tuition and encouragement, but it is also important that you take the chance to be more responsible for your own studies and time management alongside taking on more responsibility as a role model both for the school community and the wider community that provides the really exciting opportunity to prepare for the world of further education and work. We want to celebrate the many qualities that you have, develop them further and use them to inspire others in our school and beyond.

If you attend all lessons, meet deadlines and take care with your work, then you should gain your optimum grades. If you are well organised and focused, then there’s no reason why you shouldn’t also enjoy some of the many extra-curricular activities available to our sixth formers. Sport, music and drama are just three of the areas that can lead to exciting and fulfilling projects.

Our students are given the opportunity to take part in important school decisions. Our Sixth Form Student Leadership team, democratically elected, represent the school as a whole, at a variety of events and functions. You, the students, also organise the highly successful Charities Campaign, Twelfth Night Ball and Leavers’ Dinner.

The decision to continue your education at the Duchess’s High School is a vital one, and we are here to help you make these choices that we hope will provide you with the confidence to move onto your next steps with confidence, academic success and an awareness of your role as a global citizen..

Applications from new students to the school are welcomed. New students joining us integrate very successfully into our Sixth Form and each year make a positive contribution to the life of the school. If you would like more information or to meet with a member of the 6th form team please do contact the school.

Be purposeful, work hard, take responsibility, build positive relationships and get involved in our community and you will enjoy what is on offer in our Sixth Form. Past experience tells us that your time here will be fulfilling and memorable.
