“Try and do some work experience before you decide what to do.“

Where am I now? Head of Chemistry. I teach science to years 8-9 and specifically chemistry to years 10-13.

What previous occupations have I had? Teacher of science / Waitress / Barmaid / Shop assistant in a bakery

What were your favourite subjects and memories? Maths – fantastic teacher (Mr Tom Wilson). PE – playing on most of the school teams and I especially remember the trips in the mini bus to our matches. We travelled as far as Ipswich for one tournament. It was fabulous.

Chemistry – Ron Wiggins my form teacher and Chemistry teacher was an amazing teacher.

What did you do after leaving DCHS? I studied for a BSc in Pharmacology at Newcastle University.

What careers advice would you give a current student of DCHS now? Try and do some work experience before you decide what to do. I shadowed a number of different people, including research scientists, veterinary surgeons, radiographers to name a few. Always be realistic in terms of what you can do and make sure you choose something you can think of doing for a decent amount of time!
