Assistant Headteacher: Teaching & Learning
Teaching is the work.
The Duchess's Community High School, part of Pele Trust, is seeking to appoint an Assistant Headteacher to lead teaching and learning across the school. This is a key appointment for us: the person who will take our teaching and learning philosophy forward and make it bite deeper in every classroom.
The most significant improvement at The Duchess's over the past two years has come from teaching. Not from a new initiative, but from the steady work of getting ordinary lessons right. We have built a shared framework, a protected professional development structure and a staff team with a real appetite to get better. We now need someone hungry for improvement to lead that work, with the licence to change what is not working once they understand it properly.
You will be a strong classroom practitioner who intends to stay one, with a track record of improving teaching beyond your own classroom and the ability to develop colleagues without diminishing them.
Click here to view our recruitment pack, which sets out the role, how teaching works here, how our professional development cycle runs, and the kind of leader we are looking for.
Prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to visit the school in advance of the closing date, which is midday on Monday 12th October 2026. Please contact Teresa Donaldson (t.donaldson@dchs.uk) to arrange this.
Interviews will be held on Thursday 15th October 2026. The post is available from January 2027.
