The Technical Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care has been designed to enable learners to access Higher Education or assist with progression into the workplace.
Learners will be required to attend placement in a real work environment to support their learning. The minimum required number of placement hours is 175 (includes the 75 hours completed during the Certificate).
This qualification covers a wide range of key subject areas in health and social care. The Extended Diploma includes a wide range of optional units, allowing learners to pursue an interest in the specific areas of social care, health studies and health sciences, while still allowing enough diversity for the optional units to be tailored to suit a learner’s preferred progression path.
Students who possess qualities such as, willingness to develop an interest in issues related to health, social
and early years, motivation, and being able to work well on your own and in groups would be best suited to this course. and who are also hardworking, well organised and who are willing to apply what they have learnt in a practical way, for example seeking opportunities to ask ‘real’ professionals and practitioners questions surrounding their working life.

CM9 – Reflective Practice (Internally assessed)
HSC1 externally set and externally marked written assessment (Pass/Fail)
External assessments make up 32% of your final grade 75 mandatory hours of coursework required over two years.
3 A Level Equivalent
All Certificate units in Year 1 PLUS
DM1 – Empowerment in H&SC (Internally assessed)
DM2 – Protection of children, young people and adults in H&SC (Internally assessed)
DM3.1 – Anatomy and Physiology for H&SC (External exam)
DM4 – Research skills for H&SC (Internally assessed)
DM5 – Personal and Professional Development (Internally assessed)
You will then also complete 4 additional specialist units (Internally assessed)
HSED2 is an externally set and assessed written assessment.
External assessments make up 32% of your final grade.
175 hours mandatory work experience in a health and social care setting is advised alongside your course.
