Careers Education and Guidance

Careers Education and Guidance are a vital part of preparing young people for the next steps in their lives. At DCHS we are determined to develop a careers programme that engages young people to aim high and understand the different ways that they can develop their knowledge of the different pathways to achieve their personal ambitions. Working alongside Pathfinder/Northernrights we aim to deliver careers opportunities that inspire and guide students at the different points in their school careers.

The school is committed to developing its careers programme to meet the demands of The 8 Gatsby Benchmarks. We do this through our careers lessons and opportunities across all of the Key Stages. Initially focusing in Key Stage 3 on aiming high and exploring careers opportunities the programme encourages pupils to consider careers and also towards the end of KS3 how subject choices will impact on career opportunities. At KS4 and KS5 the careers programme looks to include more 1-1 opportunities for pupils to have independent careers advice as well as encouraging work shadowing, mock interviews, apprenticeship advice and CV building alongside numerous opportunities to meet with local businesses who give presentations on the jobs and opportunities available.
