SEN - LITERACY
"Reading is important, because if you can read, you can learn anything about everything and everything about anything." -Tomie dePaola
The literacy intervention programme aims to support students with literacy difficulties; helping these students to develop their skills so that they can successfully access the rest of the curriculum and achieve their full potential.
The focus of sessions is to boost the confidence of students with reading and to expose them to a wide range of texts. Sessions also aim to develop their knowledge of the structure of words to improve their decoding and spelling skills.
The programme of support is created and delivered by literacy specialists to meet the individual needs of each student participating in this programme of intervention.
In September 2012, Ofsted concluded that:
"The school provides an effective reading recovery programme for the students who are behind when they join in Year 9."
