DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY - TEXTILES TECHNOLOGY GCSE
"Always keep your eyes open, keep watching because you never know what could inspire you." -Grace Coddington
Textiles technology enables students to combine their designing and making skills with knowledge and understanding in order to create quality products through textile materials. Students will develop skills in both constructing products and surface decoration for example, printing, dying, embroidery, fabric manipulation to name but a few of the techniques to be explored. As well as discovering fashion trends, influential designers and design movements, an awareness of the environmental, social and economic implications of design will be explored. The industrial and commercial relevance of textiles products in our society is also considered.
The GCSE course is assessed through 40% examined unit and 60% controlled assessment in order to recognise the importance of practical work within this subject. Throughout the course, students will design and make a range of textile products.
