Mission Statement

In GCSE Resistant Materials at DCHS we aim to develop your ability to think and design creatively using the outside world and consumer preferences as your inspiration.  We will develop your understanding of a wide range of materials and their uses as well as the processes you may use to realise your designs.  We will also expand your knowledge of designing with the environment in mind, sustainability, recycling, up-cycling are only a few terms you will come to understand and reflect on through your design work.

Through Year 10 you will explore, through design and development, several materials and plan to manufacture prototypes of your chosen designs.  This will put you in a strong position to start your Controlled Assessment task towards the end of Year 10 and through Year 11.

You will also develop an understanding of industrial processes and practices, through research and development you will reflect on how your chosen designs could be taken from your prototype stage and on to commercial manufacture.
