Leisure and tourism is an applied GCSE subject. Students learn through studying local businesses and independent research.
DCHS students in York
In year 10 students visit Alnwick Castle and Willowburn sports & leisure centre to assess the success of their marketing strategies. Students analyse customer service at the Alnwick Garden. In year 11 we study the leisure and tourist industry in the UK and visit York as an example of a popular tourist destination taking a look at its main attractions including York Minster, the Jorvik Centre and the National Railway Museum.

• Design effective marketing materials.

Receiving Welcome Host certificates
Students also gain the Welcome Host certificate in customer service as part of this course. This is a well recognised qualification used by many employers in the leisure and tourism sector.
